I have gotten a few comments and emails about coupons printing with only 1 or 2 barcodes and they don’t look like you are used to seeing them.
And I saw this info on GSI and figured I would go ahead and address the concerns.
You are seeing the changes in barcode because its been implemented to stop and eliminate fraud and people reading barcodes to defraud these companies that provide us with coupons. On the new barcodes, though shorter, it contains the expiration date, weight of the products accepted, exact products, quantity and any other information that the manufacturer would like to put in the coupon. (Example: they do not want it to double.)
So very soon, there will be far less fraud and we wont have to deal with some of the things we do now because of the amount of fraud that goes on
Unfortunately for a lot of us, lots of stores haven’t updated their system so these will have a hard time scanning through if at all. Dont be discouraged that it didn’t scan or think you may have done something wrong. Until the new scanners and system are in place everywhere, this may happen for some.
You may also have started to see these in coupons from the Sunday paper also as all coupons will eventually take this route.
